TBLC Supports Emergency Legislative Item Creating Teacher Retention Allotment and Expanding Teacher Incentive Allotment

AUSTIN – Today the Senate Committee on Education K-16 unanimously voted Senate Bill 26 out of committee. SB 26 provides an historic pay raise for public school educators and strategic compensation measures to improve teacher retention. Texas Business Leadership Council President Justin Yancy issued the following statement of support for the legislation:

“In the private sector, it’s common practice to reward your long-time, experienced employees so that they grow and keep up the good work for your firm, and this is no different. If Texas wants to retain and credential more great teachers, then we must compensate them accordingly and reward strong performance in order to improve student outcomes.”
