TBLC Opposes Tariffs on Texas’ Largest Trade Partners

AUSTIN – At midnight, March 4, 2025, the United States instituted a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada.

Justin Yancy, President of the Texas Business Leadership Council said, “Texas values the strong economic partnerships we have built with Mexico and Canada, our two largest trading partners. These relationships have fostered growth, stability, and prosperity not only in Texas but for the entire United States, benefiting businesses, workers, and consumers alike. While the TBLC recognizes the critical needs of addressing border security, stopping the influx of illicit drugs, and ensuring fair trade practices, the imposition of these tariffs on our neighboring countries will disrupt supply chains, increase costs for businesses and families, and create unnecessary barriers to economic cooperation.”

Yancy commented further, “We are committed to engaging in and supporting meaningful discussions to find a balanced path forward – one that protects Americans, supports employers and employees, and ensures a thriving economic future for Texas and the United States…”
